Ex-PGMOL chief wants Rodri to face alternative action after Tottenham comments, fine not enough

Manchester City ace Rodri has been charged over comments that he made following the 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Tottenham secured a point with a second-half fightback through two goals from Dominic Solanke, but the visitors were not happy with referee Robert Jones’s performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Spanish international launched a furious outburst about the decision to let Solanke’s first goal stand after he appeared to kick through Marc Guehi’s leg.

The FA announced on X on 13 February that he had been charged with misconduct, accused of making comments that implied bias or questioned the integrity of the match official or officials and had until 18 February to reply.

Further punishment called for as Rodri charged over Tottenham rant

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett believes that a fine would not be good enough for the City star, as the monetary impact is negligent as he is paid such a high amount.

However, he concedes that may be the only punishment that he gets, while recommending a different type of sanction.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “Any financial fine hardly impacts these high earners.

“I would prefer that he attend some form of educational course that improves his awareness and knowledge that will prevent a repeat

“I guess they will fine him a sum of money.”

Tottenham will not care about Rodri’s punishment

Whatever happens to the 29-year-old, Spurs will surely not take notice, as it does not affect them at all at this moment in time.

Ultimately, the goal stood, and Rodri’s complaints just look like a bitter response to dropping points in an intense title race.

Tottenham now need full focus on their upcoming fixtures, so that they can escape the relegation drama that they are embroiled in, as it would be a disaster if they go down to the Championship.

Whether he is fined or sent on an education course as Hackett suggests, it has no bearing on the rest on the Lilywhites’ season, so it will be of little interest to Igor Tudor, his players or supporters of the North London club.

The incident has been and gone, and it is not like it directly affected their result, so it is irrelevant right now.
