Ex-PL club CEO reveals 'very serious' Chelsea ticket issue which BlueCo need to address

Chelsea fans would be showing their unhappiness towards the ownership if they did not sell out their FA Cup semi-final allocation.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, as tickets still remain on sale to Chelsea fans for his weekend’s cup clash at Wembley against Leeds United.

Strasbourg fans joined Chelsea supporters in protesting against BlueCo’s ownership of the club before their 1-0 defeat against Manchester United.

BlueCo have spent over £1billion on players at Chelsea since 2022, but the London side have made little progress on the pitch and are in a worse financial position off of it.

Chelsea recorded a £262million pre-tax loss in their latest financial accounts, and have had to pay out millions to recently sacked manager Liam Rosenior, who was in charge of the club for just 107 days.

Chelsea in ‘ridiculous’ situation under BlueCo

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Chelsea’s ownership would have to take action if the Blues’ FA Cup allocation can not be sold.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that Chelsea need to make going to matches more affordable for the fans.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’ve been analysing the issues at Chelsea for quite a while now and just one symptom that showed up to me. We know there’s been fan protests, even the Strasbourg fans came across and joined.

“There were about 500 to 1,000 fans that walked in that protest. It’s a very bad sign. But to me, the biggest sign was that apparently they’re having problems selling their allocation for the semi-final against Leeds. Now, that to me is a big sign of the fans not being happy.

“The pricing at Stamford Bridge has been ridiculous and not selling the 33,000 allocation, for a semi-final, would be a really serious issue for Chelsea. And that’s something that I would take very seriously if I was the owner.”

BlueCo faces major sale issue

Wyness also told Football Insider that BlueCo will not be able to sell Chelsea due to the poor state of the club’s finances.

Unrest at the club will not also not help achieve a sale, whilst they are currently on course to have no European football at Stamford Bridge next season.

BlueCo’s ownership, and decision to sack Rosenior, could also be questioned by the players, some of whom were unhappy about Enzo Maresca’s departure in January.
