Exclusive: Nuno has clear stance on West Ham future if relegation sealed - ‘There are no doubts…’

Nuno Espirito Santo has no plans to engineer an exit from West Ham United if they are relegated from the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.

The Portuguese has his full focus on trying to guide the team to safety at the moment, but it is understood that he would be “unfazed” by the idea of managing in the Championship again.

Sources say that “there are no doubts” that the 52-year-old has the “full backing” of David Sullivan and the rest of the board at the London Stadium, who believe that he is the right man to lead the team long-term.

The former Wolves boss is under contract until the summer of 2028, and it is already clear that a dismissal is not in the plans of the club hierarchy, even if he fails to secure survival in the coming weeks.

Nuno’s position at West Ham has been under scrutiny at several stages in recent months, but the board are happy with the impact that he has made of late.

What is Nuno’s record in the Championship like?

West Ham’s hopes of beating the drop were dealt a huge blow last weekend, as they fell to a 3-0 defeat away at Brentford on the Saturday, before Tottenham responded by winning at Aston Villa on Sunday.

The pair of London rivals are now the two likeliest candidates to finish on the wrong side of the dotted line at the end of the campaign, but Nuno has been there and done it in the Championship.

West Ham would undoubtedly be hoping to bounce straight back if they did fall into the second tier, meaning their boss would be expected to repeat his previous feats from his spell at Wolves.

Nuno only managed in the Championship for one season while he was at Molineux, as his side romped to the league title with 30 wins and 99 points to their name.

The former Porto chief immediately found the winning formula for the second division in his debut season in English football, and he would likely be required to do so again if needed next term.

West Ham have a had a significant turnover of managers in the years since David Moyes’ departure, and at the moment, both the club and Nuno are keen to continue working together in 2026-27.

Could Amanda Staveley takeover be imminent at West Ham?

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider last week that Amanda Staveley is unlikely to take over West Ham any time soon, despite recent suggestions that she is interested in striking a deal.

The former Newcastle backer has been heavily linked with potential takeovers at both West Ham and Tottenham in recent weeks, while a return to St James’ Park could also be on the agenda.

However, Wyness thinks that while Staveley has “decent banking contacts,” there is no sense of immediacy to the suggestions that she could return to a Premier League boardroom.

The Scottish businessman made it clear that he expects her to continue to be linked with any crisis-stricken top-flight clubs, as well as those where the situation within the hierarchy is uncertain.
