Exclusive: Stoke City make move to sign Crystal Palace star after deal collapses

Stoke City have made a move to sign Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on loan for the rest of the season, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources say the 23-year-old would prefer a move to the Bet365 Stadium after he turned down a move to Swansea despite their agreement with Palace.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 16 January that Swansea failed to agree terms with Rak-Sakyi, who was not convinced about joining Vitor Matos’ side.

Stoke have now emerged as the front-runners for his signature, with Coventry City’s interest fading after they landed his Palace teammate Romaine Esse.

Rak-Sakyi has a contract at Selhurst Park until 2027, and is expected to spend the second half of the season away from Palace if terms can be agreed.

The Crystal Palace academy product spent the first half of the season on loan at Turkish club Caykur Rizespor before being recalled with another move in mind.

The winger enjoyed a relatively productive spell in Turkey before returning to South London, as he made five goal contributions across 11 games.

However, he does not figure in Oliver Glasner‘s plans, and Palace are keen for him to head out on loan to continue his development in the Championship.

Rak-Sakyi spent last season on loan at Sheffield United in what proved to be a mixed spell under Chris Wilder as he could not cement himself in the team.

Football Insider revealed in the summer that Crystal Palace were open to offers for Rak-Sakyi, with Championship clubs queuing for his signature.

Oliver Glasner and Marc Guehi to leave Crystal Palace

Glasner’s press conference ahead of the Eagles’ visit to Sunderland this weekend proved an explosive one, as the boss revealed he will leave Selhurst Park this summer.

Glasner has been tipped for the Man United job and is firmly on their shortlist, and has now confirmed he has no intention of extending his stay with Palace.

Meanwhile, Man City have agreed to sign Marc Guehi, with a fee of £20million accepted by the Eagles as they were keen to avoid losing their captain on a free.

This news came after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 8 January that Man City are prepared to offer £20million for Guehi as a result of their defensive concerns.

Injuries to both Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias have forced Pep Guardiola‘s side into the market, where they feel they can exploit Crystal Palace’s situation.
