Florian Wirtz dazzles, 4/10 flops, quartet get 7/10 - Liverpool player ratings vs Burnley
Liverpool dropped valuable points at Anfield as they were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool looked the more likely to score in the first half, and Dominik Szoboszlai wasted a fine chance to put them ahead just after the half-hour mark as he crashed a penalty against the crossbar following Florentino’s foul on Cody Gakpo.
Arne Slot’s side did take the lead before the break, though, as Curtis Jones found Florian Wirtz in a crowded penalty area and he lashed the ball into the top corner for 1-0.
Ibrahima Konate was close to scoring an own goal just after the hour mark after Burnley countered, but his poke towards his own goal was well kept out by Alisson.
It was soon 1-1 as Marcus Edwards ran off the shoulder of Konate and smashed the ball past Alisson from an angle on the left side of the area.
Hugo Ekitike thought he had put the Reds back in front in the 77th minute, but he was ruled offside, while Alexis Mac Allister blazed over the bar two minutes later despite being under little pressure, and it ended 1-1.

Florian Wirtz – Man of the match
Liverpool fans have been critical of Wirtz since his record-breaking move from Bayer Leverkusen, but he looks to be properly finding his feet on Merseyside as time passes.
The German playmaker was central to pretty much everything that Liverpool created against Burnley, and he took his goal superbly well, leaving Martin Dubravka with no chance of stopping such a venomous shot.
Wirtz’s Reds form has seriously improved in recent weeks, with that being his fourth goal in his last six appearances in all competitions.
He finished the game with three chances created, 10 touches in Burnley’s box and five passes into the final third to earn an 8/10 rating, but will be disappointed that his strong showing was unable to fire Liverpool to all three points.
Dominik Szoboszlai missed a huge chance to score and struggled throughout
Szoboszlai’s blunder saw Liverpool concede against Barnsley in the FA Cup last week, and he also made a mistake here which cost his side all three points.
The Hungarian midfielder cut a confident figure as he strode up to take the Reds’ penalty in the first half, but he put way too much power into the strike and rattled the woodwork.

He took another five shots on goal, but only managed to get one on target to test Dubravka, and looked like he was trying too hard to get attacks going throughout.
To add to that, his corners were poor and rarely tested a shaky Clarets backline, and Liverpool fans will be fuming with his showing, which sees him given a four out of 10.
