Gareth Bale has just hit Tottenham nail on the head, Lewis Family need to listen in

Gareth Bale is deeply concerned about the direction Tottenham are heading in.

The Wales international joined Spurs from Southampton in 2007, and excelled before moving to Real Madrid in 2013.

Bale went on to return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on loan in the 2020-21 season, scoring 11 times in 20 appearances.

However, he’ll feel sickened by how far the club has fallen in recent years, with Spurs sitting 16th in the table and just one point clear of safety in serious danger of being relegated.

The recruitment has been an absolute shambles under the Lewis Family, and Bale believes it’s one of the key reasons why Tottenham are in serious danger of being relegated.

Gareth Bale criticises Tottenham’s recruitment methods

The Lewis family might be the most unpopular owners in the Premier League right now.

Joe Lewis has been under pressure to sell Tottenham, with fans furious at how the club has been run.

Not only has that been seen through the poor performances on the pitch, but the recruitment has also been below par for several years.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast on 5 March, Bale said he believes Spurs have never prioritised signing players who are the finished article.

He said: “They always seem to buy young and hope that they’ll grow into top players. That worked with me and a few others, but Tottenham are an established club now.

“They need to buy more established players and pay a bit more for their services. That’s the biggest issue, they don’t sign the proven player.”

Lewis has made a number of costly errors, whether that be in recruiting staff or failing to spend money in a responsible way, and Spurs fans simply deserve better.

How have Spurs managed to get it so wrong with recruitment?

Simply put, Spurs have signed too many players from other Premier League teams much lower down the table.

Signing Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest for £50million was questionable, and although he scored the winning goal in the Europa League final, he was never going to take the team to another level.

Yves Bissouma and Dominic Solanke clearly have a lot of quality, as shown by their performances for Brighton and Bournemouth, but they have suffered a number of injury problems that stunted their development.

When you add the likes of Wilson Odobert and Richarlison into the mix, it’s safe to say that signing players who had one good season for a club where the expectations aren’t as high isn’t a good strategy.

It’s a sign of complete incompetence, and they’ve spent a lot of money on mediocre players who have failed to have a positive impact.

This has ultimately spiralled into the current situation, and the Lewis family certainly have a lot of questions to answer.
