Grealish all smiles, chants heard for transfer-linked star: Things you may have missed in Everton vs Man City

Everton‘s European hopes took a small dent as they suffered late heartbreak in the 3-3 draw with title-chasing Manchester City at Hill Dickinson this Monday.

David Moyes had to make a couple of changes, notably introducing Merlin Rohl for a rare start after Idrissa Gana Gueye picked up a knock in training.

The Blues had few moments to hurt Pep Guardiola’s side in the first half, with Beto having the best chance for the hosts, before Jeremy Doku curled in the opener.

Thierno Barry made a big impact, as his brace, along with Jake O’Brien’s header, looked likely to seal all three points for the Toffees.

However, Erling Haaland and Doku stole two points from Everton in a late comeback, and on top of this, there were some interesting and perhaps unseen moments.

John Stones chants heard at Hill Dickinson amid Everton links

John Stones has been linked to Everton following the news that he will be leaving Man City this summer as a free agent after 10 trophy-filled seasons.

The Toffees sold the centre-back to Man City for £47.5million back in August of 2016, and hope to sign him for nothing in a few months.

Stones was on the bench for City, and BBC Sport pundit Shamoon Hafez attended the Hill Dickinson and reported that chants for the 31-year-old sounded from the City away end.

Stones will most likely have multiple clubs on the table this summer, but with Michael Keane and James Tarkowski both older than him, it could be a good short-term move to make.

Beto left Jamie Carragher frustrated

Beto had Everton’s best chance of the first 45, when Rohl’s pass came across the six-yard box, eventually finding the striker’s feet.

Though the angle narrowed for a shot after Gianluigi Donnarumma’s intervention, the 28-year-old was unable to squeeze his effort in.

While speaking on Sky Sports at the break, Jamie Carragher revealed his disappointment at the divisive Everton star for missing the chance.

The former Liverpool man said: “He just lacks composure, that’s probably the main criticism [of him], he just needs to relax there.”

The striker would have most likely found the back of the net, had Rohl shown more conviction with his pass.

Jack Grealish delighted at Manchester City reunion

Jack Grealish has been a big miss for Moyes in the final third, and talks are heating up about the Englishman staying at Hill Dickinson stadium permanently.

Man City and Everton will most likely have to come to an agreement over a permanent transfer, with £20million the last reported fee mentioned.

Grealish has been away from his Man City teammates this season, many of whom he won many titles with, and the moment when he was reunited with some of his friends was captured.

The 30-year-old was seen jumping on the likes of Rodri, Ruben Dias, and Josko Gvardiol before the game, suggesting he’s getting back to full fitness from a break in his foot.
