‘He has big dreams’ – Premier League legend backed to become Arsenal or Chelsea manager

Como president Mirwan Suwarso says he would be ‘stupid’ not to imagine Cesc Fabregas leaving the club and managing either Arsenal or Chelsea.

Legendary midfielder Fabregas has enjoyed an impressive spell in charge of Como, leading the Italian side to their best Serie A finish in his first season at the club.

Como finished ninth last season – their highest finish since 1987 – and are on course to secure an even better position this term, sitting fourth with nine games remaining.

Qualifying for the Champions League would be an incredible achievement for Fabregas given Como were not even in Serie A when he first joined the club as assistant manager.

Fabregas’ impressive reign in his first job as a senior manager will naturally lead to interest from other clubs and Como president Suwarso believes he could go on to manage one of his former clubs Arsenal, Chelsea or Barcelona.

‘Cesc is really very important for us, but we would be stupid not to think that one day he could go to Arsenal, Barcelona or Chelsea,’ Como’s chief told Italian outlet Revista Undici.

‘If he continues to win with us or in any case to be successful, even if I cannot speak for him, I believe he could have bigger dreams.

‘Having said that, I hope that as long as he is here he will help us create a success plan also for those who will have to replace him.

‘For me, when he leaves, if he ever leaves, he should be the one to choose who will take his place. He should be involved in the choice.

‘Being a member of the Board of Football, he will have to help us appoint the next coach.’

Ex-Spain international Fabregas joined Arsenal from Barcelona’s academy at the age of 16 and went on to establish himself as one of the Gunners’ greatest ever midfielders.

Fabregas returned to Barca in 2011 and helped his boyhood club win La Liga, two domestic cups and the Club World Cup before joining Chelsea three years later.

His five-year spell at Stamford Bridge proved to be the most successful period of Fabregas’ career, with the midfielder winning two Premier League titles, two domestic cups and the Europa League at Chelsea.

Fabregas was tentatively linked with a return to west London following Enzo Maresca’s departure in January but Chelsea opted to appoint Liam Rosenior.

But reports say Rosenior is already under some pressure at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea currently outside of the top-four and on the verge of a Champions League exit.

Mikel Arteta is under no such pressure at Arsenal, who are still competing in all four competitions and look set to at least win their first Premier League title since 2004.

Barcelona, meanwhile, have confirmed manager Hansi Flick is set to sign a contract extension to keep him at the Nou Camp until 2028.

Flick was appointed by Barca in 2024 and has won La Liga and two domestic cups since then while reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

Fabregas’ Como boosted their Champions League hopes with a 2-1 win over Roma last time out and return to action this weekend against struggling Pisa.
