How Wolves plan to persuade Mateus Mane to stay as Premier League giants circle

Wolverhampton Wanderers are trying everything in their power to keep Mateus Mane from joining a European powerhouse in the summer.

The 18-year-old has rapidly risen to stardom in the Premier League, being given a real chance to impress as the Old Gold drift closer and closer to relegation to the Championship this season.

With two goals and an assist in 18 league appearances, Mane has quickly become one of the first names on Rob Edwards’ teamsheet, grabbing the attention of several big-name clubs.

Man United and Liverpool have been scared away by Wolves’ £50million price tag ahead of the summer window, with the club now taking extra steps to keep the talented star from leaving.

Wolves’ plans for Mateus Mane emerge at Molineux Stadium

Unsurprisingly, clubs from all across Europe are keeping tabs on the emerging talent, having gone from an academy star to a Wolves first-teamer in the space of just a few weeks.

According to talkSPORT (3 March), Edwards has made it crystal clear to the hierarchy that they should not cash in this summer, with Arsenal and Newcastle United also interested.

It is understood that, while the player is under contract until the summer of 2029, he is likely to be offered improved terms to reflect his performances should they continue until the end of the campaign.

The manager has plans to build the squad around Mane for the Championship next term, with the task of securing Premier League safety becoming harder with each passing gameweek.

Rob Edwards could lose three other big names this summer

Mane is not the only concern ahead of the summer transfer window, with three other big names being linked with the exit doors at Molineux Stadium.

Henry Winter believes Wolves could lose a key trio of Santiago Bueno, Joao Gomes and Ladislav Krecji, all of whom have impressed despite their team’s standing in the Premier League table.

It would also be no surprise to see Andre, Jackson Tchatchoua and Angel Gomes find new clubs during the summer, with the group far too talented to drop down to the Championship.

Premier League giants are always searching for bargain deals. Man City did so with Nathan Ake in August 2020 after Bournemouth were relegated to the second tier of English football.

The rumours surrounding Mane are not likely to disappear anytime soon, but if Wolves can keep hold of his signature, that will be seen as a huge plus in the Black Country.
