'I don't understand' - Peter Lovenkrands slams Rangers star after 'incredible' scenes vs Motherwell

Youssef Chermiti was busy arguing with Stephen Welsh during a Rangers counter-attack against Motherwell on Sunday.

With the game 2-1 after the Portuguese striker’s goal in the 51st minute on 26 April, he did something that baffled Peter Lovenkrands.

The Gers had a counter on at Ibrox, but in the build-up to it, the centre-forward and Welsh had a coming together, with the defender going to the floor.

After the incident, the ball was still in play as the Light Blues created an opportunity to score, but instead of joining his teammates, Chermiti walked back to have a few words with the Motherwell star, who was down on the ground.

Danny Rohl left Ibrox with no points and while the former Everton striker got on the scoresheet and provided an assist, he had a few moments to forget in the 3-2 defeat.

Youssef Chermiti to encourage Rangers revival

Speaking on BBC Sportsound on 26 April, Alasdair Lamont said, “I think I noticed, actually, as Rangers were building, Chermiti, rather than joining the attack, he ran back a few yards to have a go at whoever had stayed down before joining in again. It was incredible.”

Lovenkrands added, “I don’t understand that. I don’t understand what he’s doing. He’s the striker. He’s a number nine for Rangers and he’s more worried about shouting someone in the face than actually hitting the counter-attack. A really good goalscoring opportunity as well that he missed out on. It could have been different had he gone forward a bit.”

Chermiti will be even more important to the Gers in the final four games of the season.

The Portugal Under-21 international has proven to be a big-game player for the Light Blues and Rohl will surely need the striker to perform his heroics at Tynecastle Park against Hearts on 4 May.

While Bojan Miovski didn’t get enough time to prove himself at Ibrox against Motherwell, the 21-year-old ensured that the Glaswegian outfit have an in-form centre-forward going into the upcoming matches.

The Govan side still has a chance of winning the league title, depending on how results pan out elsewhere, and Chermiti can be at the forefront of it.

Danny Rohl has glaring problem at Ibrox

Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez’s partnership has been the backbone for Rangers in recent weeks, but they looked shaky against Motherwell.

Rohl has brought defensive solidity to the Gers, but their recent performances will surely give the German manager some food for thought.

The Light Blues have now conceded nine goals in their last four league matches and Jack Butland’s display at Ibrox in the 3-2 loss gives Rohl another headache.

With goalscoring the main concern a few weeks back, fans in G51 are now worried about the Glaswegian outfit’s lack of solidity at the back.
