Ibrox View: 49ers could be set to derail Rangers title bid after Celtic transfer update

The 49ers Enterprises could be about to make their biggest error since taking over at Rangers.

Russell Martin had Rangers looking dead and buried, and yet the Gers have enjoyed a miraculous revival under Danny Rohl.

As a result, the Scottish Premiership title is certainly within their grasp this season, with the transfer business they do in January set to play a big part in deciding whether or not the Light Blues can win it.

Rangers have already signed Turr Rommens and Tochi Chukwuani, with the 49ers now in talks over a player exit, but this time, not at Ibrox.

Leeds United in talks with Celtic over Joel Piroe

The 49ers had been long-involved with Leeds United before they acquired Rangers, though their transfer business at Elland Road has been significantly quieter.

That was until Friday, when it was reported by Anthony Joseph that Leeds are in talks with Celtic over the exit of Joel Piroe, who was their top scorer in the Championship last season.

On the face of it, it seems somewhat irrelevant, but if the transfer were to go through, it would ultimately be the 49ers that sign off on the deal.

If so, it would be a major boost for Celtic and, in turn, a huge blow for Rangers to see one of their title rivals secure the services of such a natural goalscorer.

It seems nonsensical for the 49ers even to consider it, but if they do, it would be their biggest mistake yet at Ibrox.

Rangers have still yet to address their biggest concern

Chukwuani and Rommens both appear to be solid signings, at least on the face of it.

If Rangers can sign Dan Neil, that would be another excellent piece of business, given the quality he showcased throughout his time in the Championship with Sunderland.

However, the Gers are still in need of someone who can score goals on a consistent basis, with plenty of question marks over the options Rohl currently has at his disposal.

That concern will only be amplified if Celtic sign Piroe in January, which cannot be allowed to happen.
