Ibrox View: 49ers have days to address 'crazy' Rangers concern after what happened vs Dundee

Rangers are missing the final piece of the jigsaw to win the Scottish Premiership title.

Rangers secured a 3-1 win over Dundee on Sunday, taking them two points closer to Hearts and two clear of Celtic after they played out a 2-2 draw.

James Tavernier opened the scoring from the spot, with substitute Danilo and Dejidi Gassama scoring in stoppage time to make sure of all three points.

Perhaps the biggest talking point was VAR failing at Ibrox, though Tavernier’s goal also saw another concern emerge, and it’s one that needs to be addressed.

Rangers have a clear transfer priority after Dundee win

Rangers have been active in January so far, with three new arrivals having already checked in at Ibrox.

However, the Gers are unlikely to be done there amid links to Sunderland’s Dan Neil as well as several other European targets.

But one position that has come with very few transfer links is the striker area, and after Bojan Miovski failed to score again, the need for a new one has been amplified.

And perhaps even more with Tavernier now two goals clear at the top of Rangers’ scoring charts with six for the season, to the surprise of Rory Loy.

Tavernier stats

Via Sportsound, he said: “Tavernier is Rangers’ top scorer in the league with six goals. Miovski and Chermiti are behind him on four.

“For Rangers to find themselves where they are in the league and so close to the top, crazy given their lack of goals from forward players.”

Stats show that Rangers are missing someone they never thought they would

There was plenty of movement at Ibrox in the summer, with several players leaving and a whole host of players coming in.

Among those who left was Cyriel Dessers, who often came in for plenty of criticism throughout his time in Glasgow.

However, as the saying goes, you never know what you have until you’ve lost it, and this may be the case here.

Dessers scored 29 goals in all competitions in his last season at Rangers, and averaged 0.77 goals per 90 in the Scottish Premiership.

In comparison, Miovski is currently on eight, with an avergae of just 0.27 goals per game.

This Rangers side with Dessers would win the title comfortably, and that is the type of striker the 49ers need to bring to Ibrox in the final few days of the transfer window.
