Ibrox View: Rangers may be well placed to sign PL star for free despite medical update
Rangers have been linked with Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil this winter.
Rangers are well and truly in the Scottish Premiership title race this season, and they owe a lot to Danny Rohl for that successful transition.
However, the Gers aren’t sitting around with their hands tied behind their back; they remain on the lookout for new reinforcements to bolster their chances of achievement.
One of those linked with a move to Ibrox is Neil, but after the latest update, it may be a deal that will have to wait until the summer.

Dan Neil’s potential next club named as Rangers suffer blow
Given the experience he has from his time at Sunderland, Neil would have been an excellent addition for Rangers.
However, the likelihood of that happening this winter looks slim, with Phil Smith having reported that a move to Ipswich was close, and Keith Downie now confirming that the Sunderland star is undergoing a medical with the Tractor Boys.
With that said, that may not be the end of the road for Rangers’ pursuit of Neil, given the fact that his contract is up at the end of the campaign.
Should Ipswich fail to win promotion back to the Premier League, Neil may have reservations about making it a permanent stay.
If the Light Blues are still on the lookout for a midfielder in the summer, then they would be able to swoop for Neil on a free transfer, while also having the likely incentive of European football.

Who else could Rangers still sign this winter?
The Gers have until 7pm on 2 February to finalise any more winter transfer business, of which several deals are believed to be in the pipeline.
Rangers have submitted a £2.6million bid to sign Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi.
That comes off the back of yet another league encounter in which a striker failed to get on the score sheet, with James Tavernier their top scorer this season.
Naderi could potentially replace Danilo, who has been linked with an exit from Ibrox ahead of the final stages of the window.
With Neil headed for Ipswich, there is also a chance that the Light Blues look to bring in another central midfielder this week.
