Ibrox view: Rangers to second-guess summer move for PL-owned defender due to form concerns

Rangers may have second thoughts about what could be a big-money move for Nasser Djiga this summer after recent performances.

The Bears loaned the defender from Premier League side Wolves last summer, and have no option to buy him at the end of his stay at Ibrox.

Wolves still own Djiga, and though they are technically a Premier League club, their fate for next season lies in the Championship after relegation.

They could sell the 23-year-old due to this, who is already attracting interest from clubs abroad, and the 49ers won’t want to get in a transfer battle.

However, their lives may have been made easier in recent weeks, as Djiga’s form has taken a dip for Rangers.

Motherwell loss was another bad game for Nasser Djiga

It has been reported that Rangers want to sign Djiga from Wolves permanently this summer, as the 49ers look to give Danny Rohl what he asks for.

However, Wolves will most likely want to recoup the £10million that they spent on the centre-back, and may even want more now.

Djiga vs Motherwell

Djiga was poor against Motherwell, and has been part of a backline that has conceded eight goals in the last three games.

Rangers fans need to ask themselves if that is really the type of leaky defence that they want in the long term.

Djiga’s old club Red Star Belgrade would also like to resign him this summer, and unless Wolves value him for less than £10m, it’s hard to see the 49ers paying up.

If Rangers fail to win the Scottish Premiership, then there is no reason as to why they should sign the Burkina Faso star who was part of a failed side.

John Souttar should return vs Hearts; here’s why

Rangers face Hearts at Tynecastle Park next Monday, and it offers the Bears a final chance to get themselves back into the race for the Scottish Premiership.

Djiga’s form has been poor for more than the last three games, and his partnership with Emmanuel Fernandez at the back seems to have shown leaks.

John Souttar has had his critics at Ibrox, but Rohl would do no harm by dropping Djiga for someone who knows what this game needs.

The Scottish brute would be perfect to play against Hearts in combating their physical playstyle and atmosphere that may get on top of the Bears without his presence.

Put it this way, some people may not want Souttar to start now, but if Djiga has a poor performance, people will be wishing that the former played instead.
