Ibrox View: Rohl not to blame for Rangers title collapse, 49ers and Cavenagh need to look at themselves

Danny Rohl is taking a lot of the flak for Rangers‘ collapse in the Scottish Premiership title race.

The Gers looked to be in dreamland at half-time at Tynecastle as they held a 1-0 lead, and were just a point behind Hearts.

However, they ended up seven points behind after goals from Stephen Kingsley and Lawrence Shankland turned the clash around.

Some observers have questioned Rohl’s managerial ability after he was outclassed by Derek McInnes in the second-half.

Rangers’ owners must keep the faith, though, he is not to blame for their inability to win the title.

Why Rohl is not to blame for Rangers collapse

The 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh brought excitement to Rangers when they were announced as the new majority owners.

However, their first decision was to hire Russell Martin, and that appointment quickly set the hype back in Govan.

Martin was sacked after 17 games, with the Bears sitting 11 points behind the Edinburgh side, and Rohl had to pick up the pieces, both in terms of results and the squad’s mentality.

He has done his best to put them in a position to fight for the title, but unfortunately, too much damage was done beforehand.

The German is not the issue, the ownership must look at themselves, rather than putting it all on the manager’s shoulders and making a rash decision.

Why Rangers fans should be excited about future under Rohl

Rohl has managed 37 games as Light Blues boss, and his record is fantastic, with 21 wins, seven draws and nine losses.

Two defeats against very good sides, in Motherwell and the league leaders, should not diminish all the good work that he has done since taking over at Auchenhowie.

Anybody questioning his job needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror, he is only getting started, and there are brighter times on the horizon in the near future.

With the ability to build his own squad and backing from 49ers and Cavenagh, the Gers will be a scary proposition next season, and supporters should be excited, not miserable.

Rohl could very well be the man to win the Gers’ next title, the fanbase needs to get behind him and push the side on to greater things, rather than doubting him.
