Ibrox View: Skov Olsen to keep tabs on Celtic developments after O'Neill injury update vs Rangers

Andreas Skov Olsen will be hoping Kieran Tierney fails his late fitness test, with Martin O’Neill confirming the Celtic star is a doubt for Sunday’s Old Firm.

Tierney sparked Celtic’s recent comeback at Ibrox, netting the first of their two goals in last week’s Old Firm.

He is an important player for O’Neill, and from a Rangers perspective, they would rather not face the Scotsman.

Now, it looks like he could be set to miss out, and Skov Olsen in particular will be licking his lips at the thought.

Why Celtic update on Kieran Tierney will delight Andreas Skov Olsen

Tierney has found himself in fine goalscoring form for Celtic in the last two games, where he has scored against Rangers and Aberdeen.

While Skov Olsen is not known for his defending, the width that the Celtic fullback provides does still come in his territory.

O’Neill put into doubt Tierney’s involvement at Ibrox saying: “We’ve got a couple of niggles, Kieran for a start. The injury happened to his foot. It’s clearing up, but it’s been sore (for him), and we will see how he is tomorrow.”

At Ibrox last week, the 28-year-old was able to get quite heavily involved in Celtic’s attacks, with the Scotsman providing six crosses.

Although Skov Olsen appeared to get the better of Tierney in the Scottish Premiership showdown, highlighted by his five ground duel wins out of eight, compared to the Celtic man’s three out of eight, his sheer presence poses a threat for the Dane to worry about.

And it will not just be the winger looking to keep a close eye on things.

Dujon Sterling or James Tavernier will be relishing Old Firm even more now

Danny Rohl has a decision to make at right-back this weekend, with Dujon Sterling typically preferred in the defence against Celtic.

Sterling has started the last two Old Firm matches, with James Tavernier missing out.

However, no matter who starts, they will also be keeping tabs on Tierney’s recovery, as if he is set to miss out, it would be a boost for the Bears.

Marcelo Saracchi has not played often for Celtic this season, and he offers less attacking threat. It would give Sterling or Tavernier more licence to roam forward.
