'Incredible' - Jack Butland wowed by one Rangers teammate after what he's just seen

Rangers’ rejuvenation is in full swing after closing the gap on Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts once again.

While the Scottish giants are just four points behind Hearts, back in October, Rangers were in crisis mode after sacking head coach Russell Martin just 17 games into his Ibrox reign.

Just before his dismissal, Rangers fans tried to stop their own team from leaving Falkirk’s stadium, with Martin having to be escorted out by police.

Danny Rohl has done a stellar job since taking over at Rangers four months ago, typified by the fact that they have risen from eighth to second in the table.

Following Rangers’ 3-0 win over Dundee on Sunday, some of James Tavernier’s teammates have heaped praise on the veteran after reaching a personal milestone.

Rangers star James Tavernier makes history

After Rangers’ clash was delayed due to a VAR fault, the Scottish giants swept aside Dundee at Ibrox thanks to three second-half goals.

Captain Tavernier opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 48th minute before stoppage-time strikes from Danilo and Djeidi Gassama put more gloss on the scoreline.

Tavernier’s spotkick brought up his 100th league goal for Rangers in his 11th year at the Govan club.

Following the victory, the 34-year-old expressed his “pride” at getting to a century of goals on Instagram, and teammate Jack Butland was quick to praise his achievements, too.

Among all the well-wishers, former Stoke City goalkeeper Butland wrote in the comments section, “My skip, big pen and incredible milestone bro.”

Whether this will be one of Tavernier’s last hurrahs at Rangers remains to be seen.

Rangers face Tavernier contract dilemma

Tavernier has served Rangers with great distinction over the past decade or so. He has played 550 times for the club, scoring more than 130 goals in the process.

The former Bristol City man has won a Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup, and more, during a memorable stint at Ibrox.

But his stay there could come to a close in the summer when his contract expires. While he may not be as sound defensively, his attacking output cannot be ignored.

Tavernier stats

He is Rangers’ top scorer this season with nine goals in the league, despite not featuring as regularly this term, and with his help, they are truly back in the title race.

Tavernier has been linked with Greek side Panathinaikos, but it seems a January exit is unlikely.

In fact, Rangers have been urged to keep Tavernier at least until the summer, but so far, there is no contract breakthrough. If he keeps scoring, though, Rangers may have a big dilemma on their hands.
