Insider: 'Alarm bells' ringing at Aston Villa after Unai Emery exit reveal

Unai Emery could be tempted to quit Aston Villa in the summer as he has grown increasingly frustrated by their lack of spending power.

Financial restrictions at Villa Park have prevented the club from capitalising on the success they have enjoyed under Emery and preventing them from making progress.

They have dropped for fourth place in the Premier League table and are at risk of falling further after a dismal run of form, despite having previously looked like title contenders.

Former Aston Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Emery is highly regarded by clubs across Europe and could be tempted away from the Midlands.

With the manager market likely to explode this summer with multiple top clubs making changes, Aston Villa could be set to lose Emery.

Unai Emery edging towards Aston Villa exit

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 7 March that Emery is increasingly likely to leave Aston Villa this summer, and the closing stages of the season will be key.

Villa are in need of another overhaul this summer with numerous positions on their radar, but if they are unable to spend freely, the boss will be left frustrated.

Unai Emery has done a fantastic job at Aston Villa,” Brown told Football Insider.

“But with their financial situation the way it is, they’ve been a bit limited in how far they can really progress, and that might become an issue there.

“He’s held in very high regard in managerial circles and I’m sure there will be clubs who look to tempt him away from Aston Villa if that’s a possibility.

“Alarm bells will be ringing for Villa because of course they don’t want to lose him.

“But we saw it in January, they couldn’t spend big to improve their team and they even lost players, and that’s when they were sitting third in the Premier League.

“Ideally, he’d want to be improving his squad in that window to push and make a challenge, and it’s going to be frustrating that it wasn’t possible.

“I can definitely see why he would be unhappy in that situation and perhaps if the right offer comes along he could be tempted away.”

Aston Villa face significant overhaul amid financial concerns

Despite the club still being faced by a difficult financial situation, there is a growing feeling that major changes are needed in the transfer market.

Some of Villa’s top players are ageing or coming towards the end of their time at the club, and will need replacing and improving upon if they are to make progress.

For example, Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that Ollie Watkins could leave Aston Villa after what has been a frustrating season.

Villa have been open to offers in the past two windows, but their desire to sell the forward is now stronger, with a £30million offer likely to be enough.

The club are planning to rebuild their attack with new options on their radar, but will likely have to sell before they can spend big.
