Insider: 'Three Man United players' key to Carrick agreeing permanent manager deal

Michael Carrick remains a strong contender for the permanent Man United job and has placed himself in a strong position after just two games in charge.

Man United beat Arsenal 3-2 last time out, immediately following up on their 2-0 win against Man City, and the calls for Carrick to land the job are growing.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the resurgence of Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez in particular is aiding the boss’ bid.

The decision to revert to a back four, with players now deployed in more natural positions, has helped the interim manager to better instill his ideas on the side.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Carrick’s tactical tweaks have transformed Man United and are largely to thank for their last two victories.

Michael Carrick is getting the best out of Man United stars

Brown told Football Insider on 26 January that Man United will not rush into hiring Carrick and plan to assess their options at the end of the season regardless of his form.

However, the transformed performances of a number of first-team stars who had struggled under Ruben Amorim are making a strong case for the new boss.

The changes he has made aren’t exactly rocket science, but they get results,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Nobody ever wins anything if they can’t defend, and United defensively with the three at the back were exposed defensively with players playing out of position.

“Carrick has brought Harry Maguire back into the starting XI and he has been outstanding in these last couple of games.

“It’s brought a lot of stability to the team, and I’m not going over the top because it’s only been two games, but it has made a massive difference.

“Luke Shaw is back in his more natural position and I could make a case out for him being one of the most reliable left-backs in the league when he’s fit.

“Then Martinez is getting back to his best after a long time on the sidelines with an injury, that’s three of your back four and all of a sudden they look a far better side.

“Any success Carrick has this season will be built on that solid foundation that he has already brought to the side, and who knows, it could land him the full-time job.”

Could Carrick land the permanent Man United job?

Following his successful return to the dugout at Old Trafford, calls for the interim manager to land the permanent job have continued to grow.

Football Insider revealed on 18 January that Carrick could land the permanent Man United job as his position as interim manager puts him in the box seat.

However, any decision about his future will be made closer to the end of the season, and there is no guarantee that his displays will land him the job.

Brown told Football Insider that Carrick will force Man United into a difficult decision as they may have to make a U-turn on their plans.

However, as things stand, the plan remains to appoint a top-class manager at the end of the season regardless of how well the interim boss does during his spell.
