'I've checked with my sources' - Expert: Liverpool have to pay £50m+ fee for summer signing

Liverpool could have to pay over £50million to bring Jarell Quansah back to Anfield less than a year after they sold him to Bayer Leverkusen.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid rumours of Liverpool wanting to re-sign Quansah in the summer transfer window.

Quansah joined Bayer Leverkusen for £35million last summer in search of more first team football, and the 23-year-old has started 18 Bundesliga matches this season.

Liverpool’s summer transfer plans will centre around defensive additions, with Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson both set to leave when their contracts expire.

Bayer Leverkusen ‘looking at £51m’ for Jarell Quansah

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes it would not be bad business for Liverpool to re-sign Quansah.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks there is a “lot of value” in a player knowing a club.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, I’ve checked with my sources, I think I’ve got the number about £51million is what I’m looking at from Bayer Leverkusen.

“And at that sort of level, he’s probably not bad. We all know he’s had some injuries and those sorts of things have sort of delayed him coming back. But they know him at Liverpool, they understand him.

“And I think there’s a lot of value in that for clubs who understand players and know them and can integrate them quickly. Also, for Quansah, if he does come back understanding Liverpool, knowing Melwood, etc. There’s a lot of value in that.”

Liverpool in Alessandro Bastoni transfer race

Sources have told Football Insider that Liverpool will only be able to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan if they submit a big offer to the Italian club.

Inter Milan do not wish to entertain any offers under £80m for Bastoni, with multiple European clubs chasing his signature.

Bastoni would strengthen Liverpool’s centre-back options, but any deal could also hinge on the 26-year-old’s desire for a new challenge and Champions League football.
