Jack Grealish wants permanent Everton transfer now but has back-up plan ready - report

Jack Grealish has made it no secret that he wants to remain at Everton.

The Manchester City star was shipped to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on loan last summer, when Pep Guardiola made it clear he was no longer in his plans.

It started sensationally for Grealish, but an injury at the start of 2026 ended his season prematurely.

Or so it was thought, with some suggestions that he could yet return over the next month with only four games to go in the Premier League.

Grealish wants to turn his loan into a permanent stay, but it isn’t straightforward for Everton.

Manchester City demands could change for Jack Grealish

City are said to want up to £50million for Grealish.

But, The Mirror has reported that figure could be forced to drop over the next few months, as the winger enters the final year of his contract at the Etihad.

Grealish is said to know that he has no future with City for as long as Guardiola remains in charge.

Everton and the Citizens would need to agree upon a suitable fee for both parties to make the move permanent, lower than the £50m previously mentioned.

What is Jack Grealish’s back-up plan?

Even if the Friedkins and the Toffees can’t come up with a suitable fee for City, Grealish could still remain on Merseyside into next season.

That’s because the winger would rather seek another loan move away, rather than return to Manchester, before becoming a free agent in summer 2027.

Of course, if a permanent deal couldn’t be agreed upon, but the loan option was there to take for a second season, Everton would surely be at the front of the queue.

It would also suit them in the sense that Grealish would become a free agent after next season, so he could stay beyond that as well for no upfront cost.

Either way, it looks likely that Grealish will be staying in Everton blue.
