James Tarkowski's Everton contract examined after Chelsea transfer claim made
James Tarkowski’s future at Everton has been questioned by Troy Deeney, who believes Chelsea would love him.
The 33-year-old came straight back into the side after missing the Arsenal clash as the Blues secured a 3-0 victory.
It was a performance that has been typical of the former Burnley man this season as he was assured at the back throughout the contest.
Everton will not worry about any potential interest in Tarkowski, he has already committed his future to the Hill Dickinson Stadium side.

What did Deeney say about Tarkowski and Chelsea?
Tarkowski’s showing in the dominant Everton win led to Deeney questioning whether Liam Rosenior’s side could make a move.
The former Watford striker named the Toffees star in his BBC Team of the Week on 22 March and made the transfer claim.
Tarkowski’s stats vs Chelsea Clearances 4 Blocked shots 2 Recoveries 4 Ground duels (won) 3(1) Aerial duels (won) 3(2)
He said: “It was another solid performance from the Everton defender.
“He showed his experience and control, and was always where he needed to be, he made those tackles when needed and more importantly, was a calming presence in their backline.
“How Chelsea would love a centre-back with that kind of gumption, especially given the shaky defending they have shown at times.”
What is Tarkowski’s contract situation at Everton?
Tarkowski signed a contract extension with the Blues in October 2025, which will see him remain with them for another two years.
His new deal will keep him on Merseyside until 2028, at the very earliest, and is fully deserved, given his form in this campaign.

He has made 152 appearances for the club since joining on a free transfer from Burnley in 2022, and will get the chance to extend that tally beyond the 200 mark.
What did Tarkowski say after signing new deal?
Tarkowski confirmed that he plans to help Everton qualify for Europe after agreeing to fresh terms with the L4 club.
Speaking to the club’s official media channels, he said: “It’s been a crazy few years with some big lows and some massive highs. We’ve managed to get through those tough times, and hopefully now we’re on to more positive and exciting times ahead,” said Tarkowski.
“It’s always been an ambition of mine to play European football. I had a brief spell with Burnley in the qualifiers, but we didn’t make it to the group stages, so I want to get there.
“It’s the manager’s goal, it’s our goal as a team and so far, we’ve started pretty well.
“Of course, it could have been better, but we’ve had a decent start, and we’re definitely striving to get into those European spots and bring European football to our new stadium.”
How has Tarkowski performed this season?
Tarkowski has been in brilliant form this season, which cannot be questioned.
The Blues ace has played 30 times in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal and notching one assist, and helping his side keep 11 clean sheets, per Sofascore.
He has averaged 6.8 clearances, 2.4 ball recoveries, 1.4 shots blocked and 1.3 tackles per game for the Toffees so far.
In terms of duels, he has won 66 per cent of the ground duels he has attempted and 71 per cent of the aerial battles that he has contested.
He has been a rock at the back for David Moyes’ side, and they will be relieved that his contract situation is extremely secure.
