Jamie Carragher names five Chelsea stars who could leave including £60m signing
Jamie Carragher believes as many as five Chelsea players could be left questioning their future if the club are not challenging for major honours soon.
Chelsea have spiralled in recent weeks under Liam Rosenior, losing four games in a row having crashed out of the Champions League during that run.
In the Premier League, defeat at home to Newcastle United and a dismal 3-0 hammering at Everton had left them in sixth place, seven points behind third place Manchester United.
While fifth is likely to be enough for Champions League qualification next season, there is an intense battle underway for those spots between United, Aston Villa, Liverpool and the Blues, with Brentford and Everton also now breathing down their neck.
While they won the Conference League and Club World Cup last season, the chasm between Chelsea and the best sides in England and in Europe has been evident again this season.
And former Liverpool star Carragher fears the likes of club captain Reece James, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer and summer signing Joao Pedro will be having serious reservations of the club’s future if they don’t emerge from the current slump.
‘Chelsea were always winning, they were always in finals and collecting trophies,’ Carragher told The Overlap.

‘Now it’s about building… building for what? This generation of fans expect to win. They are not into this building for the future.
‘I can’t believe the Enzo Fernandez stuff. I think Chelsea have got five or six really brilliant players, really good. Reece James, Moises Caicedo, Fernandez, [Cole] Palmer, Pedro up front.
‘But eventually they will go, “what the f**k is this, I should be playing for a team going for the Champions League”. You can’t keep building.’
Following the Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, Enzo Fernandez cast huge doubts over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge, doubling down on those comments in recent days.
Moises Caicedo went the other direction, vowing to become a Chelsea legend when quizzed on a possible move to Real Madrid.
Cole Palmer meanwhile has been linked with a shock move to Manchester United in recent months with Blues legend Joe Cole fearing it is a real possibility the England international is considering his future.
‘They’re frustrated. And you get into that position now, where the best players are going to start going,’ Cole said this week.
‘If you’re Cole Palmer you’re thinking, I could go and play anywhere in the world. Like, what’s happening here? Do you know what I mean?’
