Jens Berthel Askou backed to decide the future of Julian Araujo at Celtic
Celtic’s next manager will decide the future of Julian Araujo even if the fanbase wants the defender to remain at the club.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou will become Celtic’s next manager.
Araujo’s time at Celtic looks to have come to an early end, with the 24-year-old set to be on the sidelines for the rest of the season with a thigh injury.
The right-back is on loan from Premier League club Bournemouth, with Araujo costing the Cherries £9million from Barcelona in 2024.
Celtic are set to be active in the transfer market this summer, but the board have been reluctant to open the chequebook in recent windows.

Julian Araujo decision ‘won’t be made right now’
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Celtic would be making a “big investment” signing Araujo on a permanent deal.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Askou, who is the managerial favourite to takeover at Celtic Park, will decide whether Araujo fits into his plans.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The fans like him, but really, that’s going to be a fairly big investment from the Celtic budget.
“So any new manager has got to think, does he fit into what my plans are? And the Motherwell manager has played some superb football and everybody admits that.
“He’s got to be the one that’s got to decide the squad he wants to try and replicate that with Celtic if he is indeed the manager coming forward, which I’ve got to believe he will be.
“Those are the sort of factors I’ve been looking at before any decision is made, and I think it’s not going to be a decision that we make right now.”
Celtic to reignite interest in Frosinone winger
Sources have told Football Insider that Celtic could look to sign Fares Ghedjemis from Italian club Frosinone in the summer.
Ghedjemis, who was on Celtic’s list of transfer targets in January, has scored 12 goals in 31 Serie B games this season.
The 23-year-old’s agent has recently hinted at a summer move, but Celtic could be priced out of any move, and may only be able to afford a deal if they qualify for the Champions League.
