Joe Hart forced to eat his words after what Archie Gray did in Tottenham vs Crystal Palace

Archie Gray left Joe Hart eating his words despite Tottenham’s embarrassing defeat to Crystal Palace on Thursday evening.

Igor Tudor’s side were beaten 3-1 by the Eagles at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leaving them just one point above the Premier League relegation zone.

Dominic Solanke opened the scoring for Spurs, but their lead lasted a matter of minutes, with Ismaila Sarr converting a penalty after Micky van de Ven was sent off for a last-man challenge.

Tottenham then completely fell apart, Jorgen Strand Larsen putting the visitors ahead before Sarr grabbed his second just before the break.

Joe Hart questions Archie Gray’s positioning

Tudor went with a back four for the defeat with Fulham, but switched to a back three against Crystal Palace, with Van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Pedro Porro the trio in defence.

Archie Gray was tasked with playing right-wing back, while 19-year-old Souza was given his first start at left-wing back.

Spurs struggled in the opening 20 minutes against Palace, failing to find any sort of momentum and coming under a lot of pressure themselves.

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart was left confused at the positioning of Gray and Porro in particular.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Hart questioned why Porro was the deeper of the two players, given that he has so much quality going forward.

He said: “There is just no flow to what Spurs are doing. I can’t see why they wouldn’t have Archie Gray in the back line and Pedro Porro on the right. He has such great delivery.”

Archie Gray proves Joe Hart wrong

Moments after Sarr thought he had put Crystal Palace ahead, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside, Solanke gave Tottenham the lead.

Solanke may have been the one to put the ball in the back of the net, but Gray did all of the hard work, turning two Palace defenders on the right wing before putting in an inch-perfect cross.

Gray’s moment of brilliance showed exactly why he had been trusted at right wing-back, and proved Hart’s comments wrong.

However, Spurs’ lead was short-lived, as Van de Ven’s sending off turned the game on its head and gave Palace a route back into the contest.

Hart was left eating his words, but it will mean very little to those Tottenham fans, who were left embarrassed by their side.
