Joe Lewis has already pulled January masterclass as Tottenham reap £35m transfer reward

Tottenham’s January transfer window may not have been that inspiring so far, but Joe Lewis has got one thing right.

Thomas Frank’s future at Spurs is in doubt, but the Lilywhites are still going ahead with transfer plans regardless of what they decide to do with the Dane.

Tottenham were rocked by Fabricio Paratici’s desire to join Fiorentina, as Spurs still have to trust the Italian to do the right deals before he leaves for his homeland soon.

Lewis has spent his money on the likes of Conor Gallagher and Souza this month, who were both most likely recommended by Paratici and Johan Lange.

However, Brennan Johnson’s Tottenham exit may just turn out to be the best piece of business that Lewis has sanctioned this month.

Tottenham cashed in on Brennan Johnson at the right time

Tottenham were able to get £35million for Johnson, as some supporters were sad to see the back of the Welshman.

The right-winger scored the all-important winning goal in Spurs’ Europa League triumph against Manchester United last year. But it then became clear that Johnson was not in Frank’s plans.

Some many have thought that Palace were getting a shrewd deal, but as things stand, the 24-year-old is proving to be a big transfer mistake made by the Eagles.

So far, for Palace, Johnson has had little to no effect for Oliver Glasner’s side. He is contributing to one of the Eagles’ worst spells under the Austrian, as relegation fears grow around Selhurst Park.

At this rate, £35m for a winger who was clearly on the decline without the help of Ange Postecoglou looks an absolute steal for the Lilywhites.

As highlighted by Sofascore, Johnson is averaging a lacklustre 6.63 and is having one of the worst seasons of his career.

It’s safe to say that Tottenham cashed in at the perfect time, thanks to Mr Lewis, who now has a job to replace him properly with the injury of Mohammed Kudus.

Joe Lewis has the money to spend, Johan Lange needs to find the answers

Lewis had made £150m avaiable for Frank to spend heading into the transfer window.

Although that money may be spent more wisely considering the uncertainty around the Spurs boss’s future, it will still be spent for the future benefit of Tottenham.

Lange has a list of right-wingers who could replace Johnson, and even more importantly, fill in for Kudus.

Manchester City’s Savinho has been mentioned, as has Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco, with Lange and Co. needing to make a decision on who to bring in soon.

Tottenham stats

If Lewis is going to keep Frank around for a little longer, then at the very least, he needs to buy another right-sided forward.

He has the money to do so, but the right transfer must come along.
