John Lundstram part in Rangers player exit revealed as 18-month deal agreed

Eighteen months after leaving Rangers himself, John Lundstram has helped another do the same.

Lundstram joined Trabzonspor in June 2024, after enjoying three successful seasons with Rangers.

However, his move to Turkey didn’t really go to plan, as Lundstram was heavily criticised for his performances for Trabzonspor during his 2024-25 season with them.

And so, after scoring three times and providing one assist in 32 Super Lig appearances, the midfielder left to join EFL Championship side Hull City in this season’s summer window.

Lundstram signed for the tigers on a season-long loan deal, and he’s just helped convince one of his former Ibrox comrades to join him there.

John Lundstram role in Kieran Dowell exit revealed

Kieran Dowell was always expected to leave Rangers this winter, with the 28-year-old winger unable to break into neither one of Russell Martin or Danny Rohl‘s team’s respectively.

Having joined the Gers in the summer of 2023 following a three-year spell with Norwich City, Dowell was largely predicted to become a key player in Glasgow.

Indeed, the former England youth international has Premier League pedigree on his CV from his time with Norwich, and also made a couple of outings in that division as a youngster with Everton.

As such, there was high hopes that he could become a very useful player for Rangers, but a combination of numerous injury problems and consistency issues have cost him dearly.

And on Friday, Dowell was confirmed to have joined Hull City on a permanent basis, as he penned an 18-month contract at the MKM Stadium.

Speaking in an interview with Hull’s official club website, Dowell has interestingly revealed that Lundstram has played a big part in helping him feel confident that they were the right club for him.

“I’m glad to be here,” Dowell said. “I’d known about it for a little while and was on the phone to ‘Lunny’ (Lundstram) straight away to get his thoughts and he couldn’t speak highly enough of the place.”

Dowell and Lundstram have big Premier League chance with Hull

So, is Hull a good move for Dowell, and will get more opportunities back south of the border?

Well, the Tigers are currently occupying a play-off spot in the Championship, despite the club having to deal with major financial issues including being under two-window transfer fee restrictions.

Hull do have some talented wide players though, with Joe Gelhardt already into double figures for goals, and Kyle Joseph not being far behind him either.

So, it won’t probably won’t be a case of Dowell walking into the starting XI there, but nevertheless, he and Lundstram appear to have a great chance of winning promotion to the Premier League this season.
