John Lundstram sends news message as Kieran Dowell makes Hull debut after Rangers exit

Rangers have finally managed to part ways with Kieran Dowell for good.

The Gers made a fairly low-risk signing in bringing Dowell to Ibrox in 2023 after his deal with Norwich City expired.

However, the midfielder was never really able to nail down a starting spot for multiple managers, with Danny Rohl the latest to be left unimpressed.

Dowell joined Hull City for an undisclosed fee recently, and his sale will have freed up wages and may have given the 49ers a touch of wiggle room when it comes to further incomings.

The 28-year-old made his debut for the Tigers on Saturday, and it looks like he’s settled already, with former Rangers star John Lundstram and Oli McBurnie both happy in particular.

Rohl will be hoping for Rangers to do more business with one key signing a possibility this transfer window.

Dowell was never in Rohl’s plans, and the Englishman would have been pushed even further down the pecking order with the arrivals of Tochi Chukwuani and Andreas Skov Olsen.

The former Rangers midfielder came off the bench in Hull’s 2-1 win over Swansea City on Saturday, making his debut.

Taking to Instagram after the game, Lundstram hinted that he hasn’t forgotten his time at Ibrox with a touching message to Dowell.

Lundstram said: “You don’t get it very often in football, but I feel blessed every day to share a changing room with this group, and buzzing to have my mate, Kieran Dowell, back with me.”

It looks like Dowell has walked into a side that could very well be in the Premier League next year, with the Tigers sitting fourth in the Championship after their win over Swansea.

Formerly Rangers-linked Oli McBurnie sends Dowell message

The Gers may still be actively seeking what they can do in terms of bringing in a striker in the remaining time left of the transfer window.

Youssef Chermiti has shown signs of improvement in recent matches, but the Bears would have no issue if they had someone firing like McBurnie.

Rangers were tipped with a move to sign McBurnie in the summer of 2024, but a deal failed to transpire.

The striker is now firing for the Tigers and could form a great on-field partnership with Dowell, as McBurnie put a love heart underneath Lundstram’s post.

Time will tell whether Rangers will sign a new number nine or not, but the 49ers did what was best in the case of Dowell.
