Journalist responds as Rangers are told to hijack Birmingham transfer with 'big-money' deal close

Rangers have already been extremely busy in the January transfer window.

Danish midfielder Tochi Chukwuani became Danny Rohl’s first signing, joining for a fee of £4million from Austrian side Sturm Graz.

Tuur Rommens has also walked through the door, giving Rohl depth at left-back after a deal was agreed with Westerlo for £2.6m.

The most exciting news yet is that Andreas Skov Olsen is set to be announced as a Rangers player after an initial loan move was agreed with German side Wolfsburg for the Denmark international.

However, Andrew Cavenagh could sanction a transfer for a new striker, and Rangers have been urged to hijack a deal for a forward that is on the verge of signing for Birmingham City.

August Priske plays for Swedish side Djurgardens, and he has become a sensation in Scandinavia.

The Denmark U21 international scored 18 goals in 27 league matches in 2025, making him second in the Allsvenskan goalscoring charts.

Danish media outlet Tipsbladet has reported that Birmingham are close to sealing a “big-money move” for the 21-year-old.

Chris Davies’ side are leading the race to secure his signature, with Besiktas and Lille also interested.

One Rangers fan pleaded for Rangers to go in for Priske, to which journalist Farzam Abolhosseini replied: “Three Danes in a week?”

Scottish clubs have often thrived at securing players from Scandinavia for cheap transfer fees and then selling them on for profit.

Chukwuani and Skov Olsen both have experience of playing for Denmark at different levels, and the latter has already made 40 caps for his country.

In the Rangers squad, Norwegian midfielder Thelo Aasgaard and Finnish winger Oliver Antman make up the Scandinavian contingent, and Priske would fit in brilliantly if the Bears decided to go in for him.

Cavenagh may not opt to go for the Djurgardens forward, but something has to be done about the lack of firepower up front.

Skov Olsen will certainly add an attacking threat, but the strikers need to chip in too.

Danilo looks set to leave Ibrox as he is clearly the third-choice number nine, but Bojan Miovski and Youssef Chermiti are both struggling with a lack of confidence.

Miovski had an impressive run of form at the start of December, although he hasn’t started the last four games.

Chermiti’s fantastic brace in the Old Firm derby on 3 January will not be forgotten by the supporters any time soon, although he has taken far too long to start performing.

Cavenagh is certainly making amends for the disastrous summer transfer window, but there are still issues in the squad that have to be addressed.

However, the addition of a striker that is bang on form, such as Priske, could be the final piece to Rohl’s puzzle, and Rangers may come to regret not hijacking the deal for the 21-year-old forward.
