Julian Araujo: Keith Jackson explains why Celtic have ‘seen the last of’ loanee after new injury blow
Julian Araujo may never play for Celtic ever again after being dealt a huge blow to the end of his season with the Scottish giants.
The 24-year-old loanee has been sidelined for the next seven to eight weeks, having quickly become a regular starter since arriving at Celtic Park during the winter transfer window.
With Alistair Johnston still yet to return fully, it is the last thing that Martin O’Neill needed as the Hoops attempt to keep up with Hearts and Rangers in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.
Celtic’s transfer plans are not yet clear, but what is evident is that the squad requires a complete overhaul, and Araujo might have been the most obvious of transfers before his season-ending injury.

Celtic may not be able to afford Julian Araujo
Celtic fans have instantly fallen in love with the Mexico international, not least for his passion and determination, but Keith Jackson fears that his return to the Cherries could be permanent.
Speaking on Record Sport’s Hotline, Jackson said: “Obviously, he was thoroughly enjoying himself at Celtic. Could Celtic make the deal permanent? It’ll cost a lot of money; he’ll be on Premier League wages.
“I think it’s unlikely. I think we may have seen the last of him. I don’t know… Would Celtic be able to get another loan deal? Is that the way Celtic want to go right now?
“Maybe it is because, if they’ve got such a long to-do list, and you’ve got a right-back, and you can extend that deal for 12 months, maybe it is. Eyes will be on other parts of the team.”
Bournemouth are open to Araujo’s sale, but a Celtic move isn’t definite
Football Insider understands that Bournemouth are ready to sell Araujo, having struggled to impress at the Vitality Stadium since the Cherries spent £8.5million on his signature in 2024.
He has only made one fewer appearance for the Hoops than he has for the Premier League side, but fans at Celtic Park have already seen enough from the right-back to potentially earn him a permanent move.
Had the right-back not picked up a potentially season-ending injury right now, he could have persuaded the hierarchy that he’s worth splashing the money on.
However, while he doesn’t have many setbacks on his record, when the defender does suffer an injury, it appears to have long-term effects on his overall campaign.
The Hoops need a new right-back, but attention could be on several more important positions this summer.
