Keith Jackson shares why fans could soon turn on Rohl in Rangers blame game

Danny Rohl could find himself under pressure very quickly at Rangers in the view of Keith Jackson.

The Bears beat Hearts 4-2 at Ibrox on 15 February to breathe life into their Scottish Premiership title hopes, but those aspirations came crashing back down in their last two games.

Back-to-back 2-2 draws with Livingston and Celtic leaves Rangers six points off the summit, and hopes of winning a first Scottish Premiership title in five years are fading away.

Rohl was criticised for his tactics and his substitutions in both games, with some fans already starting to doubt him as the right man for the job in the long-term.

Although the German head coach has done brilliantly to get Rangers in this position, he may fall short of winning any silverware this season, which could be disastrous for his long-term future in G51.

Rangers fans could turn on Danny Rohl quickly due to poor decision-making

Bringing on Mohamed Diomande in Sunday’s draw with Celtic backfired, as the Hoops were able to bypass Rangers’ midfield on numerous occasions in the second half.

It was the latest in a trend of tactical changes that haven’t paid off, and it’s safe to say that it’s becoming very costly.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 3 March, Keith Jackson believes that Rangers fans are already starting to turn on Rohl.

He said: “In these games where Rangers have dropped points, Rohl’s substitutions haven’t made the situation any better, and that’s the heart of the issue.

“There’s been a scattergun approach to his changes, and fans have been analytical in reaching a conclusion that the manager is almost as much to blame as the players.

“If it gets to a point where the majority of fans don’t trust Rohl’s decision-making, then it could be difficult for him.

“Unless Rangers get off to an absolute flyer next season, they could start to turn on him.”

While Rohl needs to improve in many different areas, the players also need to take some form of accountability.

Why Rangers players are at fault for the poor run of form

Of course, Rohl is responsible for how the team is set up in each game, but the majority of the squad haven’t been involved in a title race before.

The Bears have drawn their last three away games, which shows they haven’t got what it takes to secure narrow wins when it matters most.

Several times this season, the Light Blues have been criticised for the lack of leadership within the squad, and that could come back to haunt them in May.

It’s pretty clear that Rangers have to win all of their remaining league games, which includes trips to both Celtic and Hearts.

And if they fail to win the title, or even finish in third or fourth place, then Rohl will certainly come under heavy scrutiny.

Especially if they don’t start next season in a convincing manner.
