Keith Wyness: Chelsea stars are unhappy as Enzo Fernandez situation takes new twist
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has not been tipped to make a summer exit by former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness.
Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, dropped his verdict after Chelsea handed Fernandez an internal two-game suspension.
Manager Liam Rosenior claimed Fernandez had “crossed a line” after comments he made stirred speculation that he could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The 25-year-old missed Chelsea’s FA Cup win over Port Vale, and will sit out of their next Premier League fixture at home to Manchester City.
Fernandez has since been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but Chelsea could be open to selling players this summer after recording a loss of £262million in their latest financial accounts.

Chelsea told they have ‘big issue’ to resolve
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Chelsea’s sporting directors are not delivering what is required for the club.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Marc Cucurella was fortunate not to earn a suspension like Fernandez after he said it would be “hard to turn down” a move to Barcelona.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “There’s been talk about an exit [for Fernandez]. I don’t think it’ll come to that, but it does show that there are some pretty unhappy feelings within the camp, and the way that there’s sort of been a double standard with him and Cucurella.
“It seems strange what is going on. It’s not a happy place. I saw a headline that I thought was quite apt. It said, is Chelsea a football experiment or a hedge fund experiment?
“I thought that was pretty apt because what I’m seeing here is people coming in who don’t really know how to question the sporting directors. I think they’ve appointed good people. I’m sure they seem very qualified, but they’re not delivering in terms of the actual tightness for the club in terms of financial spend.
“It is a lack of knowledge and experience at the top that is still a big issue at Chelsea and it is causing a lot of these unusual numbers that are coming out, and the losses are mind-blowing in terms of Chelsea.”
Chelsea legend a candidate to replace Liam Rosenior
Unrest in the Chelsea dressing room means Rosenior’s position as manager has faced further scrutiny following a run of four defeats in five games.
The 41-year-old could face an early exit if the Blues fail to qualify for the Champions League this season, or if division behind-the-scenes continues.
Sources have told Football Insider that Chelsea could look to lure Frank Lampard back to the club, but Coventry City have no plans to allow the 47-year-old to depart.
Lampard previously had a spell in the dugout at Stamford Bridge between 2019 and 2021, and was interim manager for 11 games in 2023.
The former Blues midfielder remains a legend at the club, and looks set to steer Coventry back to the Premier League this season.
