Kris Boyd tears Celtic fans apart after Peter Lawwell exit news: ‘It’s an absolute disgrace’
Kris Boyd has been left seething by Peter Lawwell’s departure from Celtic on Wednesday.
Frustrations have been mounting at Parkhead for several months now, and Wilfried Nancy’s dismal start in the dugout has only added to the anger from the fans.
Celtic fans already want Nancy to lose his job after defeats in his opening three games, but the first departure has come at board level, with the chairman making the decision to step away.
Lawwell presided over the club for 18 years as CEO between 2003 and 2021, before returning in 2023 as chairman, but his involvement will now cease at the end of December.

Kris Boyd on ‘sad indictment’ over Peter Lawwell exit
Celtic fans have criticised Lawwell heavily in recent months, as the board have been in the firing line from all angles at Parkhead.
The club hierarchy have been subject to near-constant abuse from some sections of the fanbase, and even had to abandon their annual AGM due to discontent and disruptions back in November.
Celtic’s recent struggles on the pitch have lifted the anger in the stands up to another level, and that has ultimately proved to be the final straw for Lawwell.
The 66-year-old cited the abuse he has received from fans as one of the main reasons for his imminent departure, and Boyd feels that is a “sad indictment” of where Scottish football is at the moment.
“I think it’s an absolute disgrace for a leading figure to have to leave the club in the way that he has,” Boyd said during Sky Sports’ coverage of Celtic’s clash with Dundee United on Wednesday.
“I know a lot of people have got their views on Peter, but he’s done a lot more things right than he has done wrong. People forget that he was the chairman; he wasn’t the chief executive for the last few years.

“I still think a lot of people thought he was making decisions at the football club, which wasn’t the case. So for him to feel as if he has to leave in this way, I think it’s wrong, and it’s a sad indictment on Scottish football. You shouldn’t have to leave your role like that.”
Martin O’Neill could have been given boardroom role at Celtic
Martin O’Neill’s tenure unified the Celtic fans behind the team once again after some divisive moments under Brendan Rodgers.
The interim boss watched on from afar as the November AGM crumbled into a farcical conclusion, and Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson even suggested that he could have been given a boardroom role as a result.
Jackson suggested that Lawwell’s departure could have been confirmed in the immediate aftermath of that explosive meeting, with O’Neill handed a role in the hierarchy to act as a “unifying figure.”
However, the Celtic board seemingly missed a trick yet again on that occasion, and now they are left in a situation where they will be scrambling to try and find a replacement for the outgoing chief.
The fans have got what they wanted in Lawwell’s departure, but this situation could easily become a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’ in the coming months.
