Liverpool make new Jarell Quansah transfer plan as buy-back clause active
Liverpool have no current plans to exercise their buy-back clause and re-sign Jarell Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
Quansah left Anfield last July to join Bayer Leverkusen in a move worth around £35million, with a buy-back clause inserted into the deal.
The 23-year-old has impressed throughout his debut Bundesliga campaign, and despite such strong form, Liverpool do not plan on exercising their clause this summer, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast.
Question marks remain around Ibrahima Konate’s future at the club, but the Reds have signed two centre-backs in the last two windows, in Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet.
Liverpool will be busy on the transfer front, but the club are not thought to view a centre-back signing as a top priority ahead of next season.

Liverpool unlikely to re-sign Jarell Quansah
Quansah has scored four times across 33 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen this season, and has been a standout in a tough campaign for Kasper Hjulmand’s side.
He was handed his senior England debut by Thomas Tuchel last November too, but the Reds are content with the options they have at centre-back heading into 2026-27.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I would be surprised (if Liverpool made a move for Quansah). I think a lot of people were surprised when Liverpool let Quansah go, but they decided to let him move to Bayer Leverkusen.
“They got a decent fee of around £35million for him, and they do have a buyback clause in that deal which they can be triggered later this year, so if Liverpool want to sign Quansah, then it’s possible to do it.
“I don’t think it’s probably a top priority for them right now. Liverpool have agreed a deal for Jeremy Jacquet and will hoping they have Giovanni Leoni back fit next season as well.
“If Konate was to leave and not sign a new contract, Liverpool will probably have to be in the market for a new centre back, but I don’t think Quansah will be one that they will be fully pursuing just now.”
Liverpool look set to sign a new right-back amid Conor Bradley uncertainty
While a centre-back is not on the agenda, Liverpool’s hierarchy are in the market to sign a new right-back ahead of next season.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones have been forced to fill in on the right of the Reds’ back four in recent months due to injuries to both Jeremie Frimpong and Bradley.
Sources have told Football Insider that Liverpool want a new right-back this summer, with Bradley still sidelined as it stands, and his return date remaining unconfirmed as yet.
