Liverpool player ratings vs Galatasaray: Dominik Szoboszlai excellent but Jeremie Frimpong struggles
Liverpool cruised into the Champions League quarter-finals with a 4-0 win over Galatasaray at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Liverpool began the game on top and took the lead in the 25th minute as Dominik Szoboszlai was found on the edge of the area by Alexis Mac Allister’s corner and placed his effort past Ugurcan Cakir.
Mo Salah wasted a fine chance to score from the penalty spot just before the interval as his weak spot kick was easily saved by the Galatasaray keeper.
Hugo Ekitike then put Liverpool ahead on aggregate just after the break after some good work from Salah, with his goal soon followed by Ryan Gravenberch’s strike into an empty net to make it 3-0.
Salah soon grabbed his 50th UCL goal with a fine curled finish, with Liverpool’s next Champions League match now set to come against PSG in the quarters in April.

Dominik Szoboszlai – Man of the match
Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s player of the season so far, and he continued his fine individual form with a stellar performance against Galatasaray at Anfield.
The Hungary international clearly relished being able to play in midfield rather than right-back after Jeremie Frimpong’s return to the team, as he linked the attack and defence superbly and covered ground like it was nothing.
Minutes played 96′ Goals 1 Chances created 2 Fouls won 2 Ground duels won 5/8 Aerial duels won 2/2 Passes into the final third 13 Accurate crosses 2/3
Szoboszlai got Liverpool going in the early stages as he swept the opener home with fantastic technique, and his stats on the night tell the story of a key man who is playing at his best right now, and he has earned a nine out of 10 rating as a result.
He also won the penalty that Salah missed in the first half, after smartly putting his leg in front of the Gala defender and seemingly being tripped up, although contact did look minimal.
Sources have told Football Insider that Real Madrid want Szoboszlai and he is open to such a move, but he is absolutely integral to Liverpool and they must keep him at all costs.
Jeremie Frimpong struggled to make an impact down the right flank
It is tough to pick a bad player out of a pretty electric Liverpool performance, but Frimpong will feel as if he could have done more to help his side to victory on Wednesday.
The Dutchman failed to complete a successful dribble from two attempts, while he only put in one accurate cross from five attempts and won two of his six ground duels.
He did not offer the Reds much going forward, and when he did break through and lay the ball across for Wilfried Singo to score an own goal, he was ruled to be offside and did not count.
Frimpong earns a four out of 10 rating for his lacklustre showing.
