While in the end, the Lilywhites exited from the Champions League, the Dutch midfielder can be proud of his performance.

Simons was not the only player to provide a hopeful display, as Randal Kolo Muani also rated highly for Tottenham.

When Simons scored the penalty to add his second goal of the game, his gesture to supporters showcased that he has the mentality needed in the relegation fight.

With five minutes of added time left and two goals behind, Simons was not looking to give up as he rushed to grab the ball from the net and usher the Spurs fans on.

It was an impossible task at that point to overturn Atletico Madrid’s lead, but the moment proved Simons was committed to the cause.

That never-say-die attitude is exactly what the Lilywhites need.

It might have been a defeat over two legs, but winning this match 3-2 certainly felt like there was a mood shift at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
