Man City make new transfer plan after two blockbuster deals completed

Man City will not be moving to sign Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson this month after already completing big-money moves for Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo in the last few weeks.

Anderson has been a key man in midfield for Forest since a £35million move from boyhood club Newcastle in July 2024.

He has emerged as one of the best in his position in the Premier League this season, while also breaking into the England team, with numerous top clubs chasing his services as a result.

Football Insider revealed last month that Man City were planning to move for Anderson in January, but they have already bolstered other, more pressing areas this month.

The arrivals of Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo have ruled City out of moving to sign Anderson before the season ends, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast.

Anderson will not leave Forest and City are unlikely to make another big move this month

Anderson is also being eyed by Man United, but Forest’s £100m valuation of his services is standing in the way of any exit right now.

He has featured 28 times for the Reds this season under three different managers, and looks set to see out the season at the City Ground before a potential summer switch.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I don’t think anything will happen in January. Nottingham Forest don’t want to lose him, but there’s no doubt they’re definitely going to be tested in their resolve to keep hold of Elliot Anderson in the summer.

He’s had a great season for Forest and has had a very big breakthrough for England as well. I fully expect him to go to the World Cup with Thomas Tuchel’s side this summer.

If he goes and has a good tournament there, it’s only going to enhance his reputation even more. I think he is going to be one of the most talked about players in the transfer window because of the growing interest in his services.

Manchester City are very much interested, you’ve got Manchester United who are also very keen on Anderson as they look to reshape their midfield as well.

City obviously have been busy in January with Semenyo and Guehi, so I don’t think there’ll be any room for any further big signings.

We know Forest are going to demand top dollar for Anderson if they do let him go, so a summer move is more likely.

Rodri situation could impact City’s Anderson approach

2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri has struggled to impact City’s fortunes over the last 18 months, as he missed the majority of last season through injury. and has continued in a similar vein this time around.

The Spaniard has only made six Premier League starts in this campaign, and Football Insider recently revealed that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Rodri ahead of next term.

He will have one year left on his contract this summer, with recent reports claiming that a potential move from City for Anderson may depend Rodri’s circumstances.

Anderson’s future could also be dictated by the upcoming World Cup, as he looks to nail down a place in Thomas Tuchel’s starting eleven for the North American tournament.
