Man United given Barcelona player encouragement amid 'accepted offer' news

Barcelona starlet Marc Casado may push for a move away from the club this summer due to a lack of game time as Man United eye a move for his services.

Casado has only started six La Liga games so far this term as Barcelona hunt a successive title under Hansi Flick.

The 22-year-old midfielder started playing regularly for his boyhood club last season, making 36 appearances, while he has featured 19 times in all competitions up to now in 2025-26.

Sources have told Football Insider that Man United are interested in Casado as they look to bolster their midfield options this summer, with Atletico Madrid also in the race to sign him.

Casado wants more game time at this stage of his career, and as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, he could well accelerate an exit in the summer if he struggles for minutes over the next few months.

Casado could push for a Barcelona exit in the summer amid United interest

Casemiro recently announced that he is set to leave Man United in the summer after four years at Old Trafford, with the club now likely to target two new midfielders ahead of next term.

The Red Devils have been linked to a whole host of midfield stars, with Casado potentially a viable option if he pushes to leave Barca amid a struggle for game time.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I think at Barcelona right now, a lot will depend on what they want to do with Casado and if they want to keep him.

He’s under contract until 2028, but if they were to get a good offer from him, they might be tempted to cash in just to help with their own transfer plans and to help balance the books.

So it’s one to keep an eye on, I think. I don’t think anything will happen in this January window with Casado, but if he’s not playing regularly for Barcelona between now and then, maybe the player himself might be pushing for a move away from the Nou Camp come the summer.”

Man United to wait until the summer to chase Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton

United have been linked to numerous midfielders over the last 12 months, but uncertainty at the top of the club and a bigger focus on other positions have seen them fail to sign one.

Kobbie Mainoo now looks set to stay and sign a new deal following Ruben Amorim’s exit, with both Anderson and Wharton targeted ahead of the summer.

Both England stars have been standouts for Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace respectively, but sources have told Football Insider that United are set to wait to approach either Anderson or Wharton until the next window.

It does seem unlikely that they land both players, given the fees they are each set to command, and so a lower-price move for Casado could well be a smart option to bolster their depth.
