Man United: Jack Grealish sends ‘unbelievable’ message to Bruno Fernandes as assist record looms

Jack Grealish was almost lost for words when watching Bruno Fernandes lead Manchester United to victory against Aston Villa.

The Man City loanee has been a lot more active on social media since his season-ending injury, with the winger now showing appreciation for a player nearing a Premier League record at Old Trafford.

Fernandes grabbed two assists in the Red Devils’ win on Sunday, 15 March, taking his tally up to 16 Premier League assists this season, just four of matching the all-time record.

Man United have eight matches remaining for their captain to beat the record set by Thierry Henry, and matched by Kevin de Bruyne, and he appears set to reach that milestone in style.

Bruno Fernandes sparks incredible reaction on social media

It was Fernandes’ assist for Cunha’s goal that really sparked the reaction online, with Unai Emery’s side completely carved open by just a single pass from near the halfway line.

Taking to Instagram stories during the game (15 March), Grealish was simply stunned by Fernandes’ performance, writing: “Bruno is [an] absolutely unbelievable footballer, man.”

The 31-year-old had already notched an assist for Casemiro’s opener at Old Trafford, helping the Brazilian to score his seventh goal of the campaign, only to inflict even more damage upon the Villans.

Man City supporters are unlikely to enjoy Grealish’s story, having played over 150 games for the Citizens, but just like the rest of us, he has been stunned by just how good Fernandes can be at his best.

Man United may have to replace Bruno Fernandes this summer

Despite only being 31 years of age, this could be the captain’s final season in England, having been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia last summer.

Football Insider understands that Man United are planning talks with Fernandes over a potential new contract, but his plans remain to be seen ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

The playmaker is running out of time to earn some serious money, which could persuade him to make the move at the end of the summer, but Carrick staying on permanently may also shift his thoughts.

Fernandes has been back to his very best since being reinstated to his normal position under the interim manager, and that has played a huge role in the club’s resurgence since the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

Replacing him would be a near-impossible task, but if he were to break the record for the most assists in a single Premier League season, that would be quite the way to go out.
