Man United player wanted in free transfer as summer exit becomes inevitable

According to reports from Turkish sports outlet SporX, Super Lig heavyweights Besiktas are actively preparing to open formal discussions with the Red Devils over the signing of Altay Bayindir.

With the impending summer transfer window rapidly approaching, the Istanbul club is looking to capitalise on the 27-year-old’s status at Old Trafford to bring him back to his homeland.

Bayındır’s limited playing time at Old Trafford has fueled speculation about his future, and the coming months could prove decisive for both player and club.

Limited opportunities at Man United

Bayındır joined Man United from Fenerbahçe in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of approximately £4.3 million, arriving with a strong reputation as one of Turkey’s most reliable goalkeepers.

During his time in Istanbul, he established himself as a consistent performer, earning recognition for his shot-stopping ability, reflexes, and leadership qualities.

However, his spell in England has not unfolded as consistently as hoped. Now in his third season at the club, Bayındır has made just 17 appearances across all competitions, a figure that shows the fierce competition within United’s goalkeeping department.

At the beginning of the current campaign, he briefly stepped into the starting role, but recent performances from Senne Lammens have seen the Belgian goalkeeper establish himself as the preferred option.

Besiktas previously attempted to sign Bayındır during the winter transfer window, but negotiations failed to produce an agreement.

According to Turkish media sources, the club’s renewed interest reflects both the player’s experience and their desire to strengthen the goalkeeping department ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Head coach Sergen Yalçın is believed to view Bayındır as a strong candidate capable of providing stability between the posts.

His familiarity with Turkish football, combined with experience gained in England, makes him an appealing option for a team aiming to compete domestically and in European competitions.

Reports suggest that Beşiktaş could initially explore the possibility of signing Bayındır on a free transfer, though this scenario may depend on contractual negotiations and Man United’s willingness to release the player.
