Manchester United have cemented third place in the Premier League with a chaotic 3-2 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The first half was incredibly comfortable for the Red Devils, who went in at the break leading 2-0.

Matheus Cunha fired in the opener after just six minutes, before Benjamin Sesko bundled in a second within quarter of an hour.

After the interval things turned around swiftly and dramatically, with Liverpool suddenly in the ascendency and looking far more dangerous.

Dominik Szoboszlai netted the first, making the most of a poor Amad Diallo pass, bursting forward into the box and slotting past Senne Lammens.

Manchester United handed Liverpool their second, fluffing their lines when playing out from the back, with Szoboszlai pouncing and playing in Cody Gakpo to slot home.

The visitors were on top and were finding space everywhere, but United regained their shape eventually after Kobbie Mainoo had fired them back in front.

It was 77 minutes in when a sloppy Alexis Mac Allister clearance fell to the 21-year-old who calmly fired into the corner.

Mainoo doesn’t get many, it was his first goal of the campaign in any competition and his first in the Premier League since the 2023/24 campaign.

With their chief goal threats Hugo Ekitike, Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak all out injured, Liverpool failed to press for another equaliser.

The Red Devils secure a return to the Champions League with the win and look likely to finish third.

Liverpool remain fourth, but will drop a place if Aston Villa pick up anything against Spurs later on Sunday.
