Manchester United have revived their interest in Alphonso Davies and can strike a deal if they tempt Bayern Munich with a suitable bid this summer, according to reports in Germany.

Davies first appeared on United’s radar during his breakthrough season with MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps back in 2018.

Chelsea and Liverpool were also credited with a strong interest in Davies at the time, only for the left wing-back to complete a move to Bayern Munich for an initial fee in the region of £11million.

Davies has gone on to make 239 appearances in all competitions for Bayern, helping the club win 14 pieces of silverware including six Bundesliga titles and the Champions League trophy in 2020.

But a devastating ACL injury in early 2025 meant Davies missed the second half of last season – and the 25-year-old has struggled with a number of fitness concerns since returning from surgery.

Having already missed a total of 12 matches for Bayern this season, Davies suffered yet another setback as he went down with a hamstring strain in the side’s victory over Eintracht Frankfurt last month.

According to Bild’s Christian Falk, Bayern have been forced to hold internal talks to determine whether or not it is wise to keep hold of Davies given the player’s ever-growing list of injury problems.

Talking to CFBayern, Falk claims United have been alerted to the situation having most recently been ‘at the table’ last season when the defender’s contract situation was up in the air at Bayern.

Though Davies went on to extend his deal with Bayern until June 2030, the Red Devils have not been put off and are said to be ‘monitoring’ developments surrounding the lightning-fast full-back.

While Davies’ contract renewal makes closing a deal ‘difficult’, Falk suggests Bayern would be prepared to discuss terms for Davies should they receive a ‘concrete’ offer from the Old Trafford giants in the summer.

In a wide-ranging interview with Daily Mail Sport in 2020, Davies insisted he had no regrets about turning down the likes of United and Chelsea in favour of Bayern as a 17 year old.

‘I know there were rumours about England,’ he explained.

‘I know different teams had approached my agents. My full focus at the time was Vancouver and trying to get into the play-offs.

‘Behind the scenes, my people were dealing with it so I didn’t need to think about it a whole lot.

‘Teams approached my people and they relayed the messages to me. We sat down with Bayern Munich and as soon as I heard them, there was no hesitation that I wanted to join this team.

‘I love playing for this club. Being so young and coming here so early is even more of a motivation.’

Davies made his return from his hamstring injury as a substitute during Bayern’s 6-1 Champions League round-of-16 first-leg win over Atalanta a fortnight ago.

However, Davies fought back the tears as he was forced off again after only 25 minutes in Bergamo.

Vincent Kompany is believed to be hopeful of having the Canadian back at his disposal again for Bayern’s trip to Freiburg after the international break on April 4.

Davies is not the only wing-back to be linked to United in recent days, with fellow Bundesliga star Julian Ryerson attracting strong interest on the back of an eye-catching campaign at right-back for Borussia Dortmund.

On the left flank, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly and Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell are reportedly being tracked as doubts grow over Luke Shaw’s capacity to play consistently without breaking down.
