Manchester United in ‘advanced talks’ to sign £69m Newcastle star after Casemiro recommendation
Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports.
The 28-year-old has been a pivotal figure for Newcastle since he joined the club in a £40 million deal from Lyon in 2022.
The Brazil international is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and Newcastle have won just two of their 16 Premier League games without him in their side since his arrival four years ago.
According to Reuters, United are now in discussions with Newcastle over an €80m (£69m) deal for Guimaraes but interest from Real Madrid threatens to complicate the move.
The report adds that Casemiro, who is set to leave Old Trafford this summer when his contract expires, has personally recommended his Brazil teammate Guimaraes to United as his ‘ideal successor’.
Madrid, however, are also in the market for a new central midfielder this summer and Carlo Ancelotti, who is currently the head coach of Brazil’s national side, has also spoken highly of Guimaraes in discussions with his former club.

Guimaraes’ current contract with Newcastle is due to expire in 2028.
Earlier this week, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was also denied suggestions that Sandro Tonali could also look to leave St James’ Park this summer.
‘The person that matters the most is Sandro. All I’ve ever seen from him is someone who is totally committed,’ Howe said.
‘Very selfless at times, he’s here for the team, not for himself. Forget the noise around him, he’s just fully committed.’
