Manuel Ugarte: Newcastle have clear route to win Man United transfer race as Juventus eye loan-to-buy deal
Manuel Ugarte has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Newcastle United in recent days, as he could leave Manchester United ahead of next season.
The Uruguay international has frustrated Red Devils fans with the lack of impact that he has made since his arrival from PSG in the summer of 2024, and he is now being heavily linked with an exit, with Juventus also interested in him.
The Old Lady view the 24-year-old as a potential solution to their midfield issues, but reports in Italy have suggested that they may struggle to meet his wage demands, as he is currently understood to be earning around £67,000 per week at Old Trafford.
Ugarte has started just seven games in the Premier League so far this term, and United are reportedly willing to entertain any opportunities to sell him this summer.
Newcastle’s transfer plans are set to see them try and strengthen their hand again ahead of a push for the European places next term, and Juventus’ issues could play right into their hands.

Permanent swoop for Manuel Ugarte to seal Man United deal
Several fringe players are being linked with moves away from United this summer, as it is clearly in their interests to try to offload some stars to make way for new additions.
Ugarte is set to be one of the players who falls into the category for potential sales, but it would undoubtedly be beneficial for Michael Carrick and Co. if they could secure an immediate transfer fee for him.

With that in mind, the suggestion from Tutto Sport that Juventus will only be able to sign Ugarte on a loan-to-buy deal will surely not make that an attractive proposition for the selling club.
Newcastle briefly tried to land the ex-Sporting CP man on loan during the January window, according to Uruguayan outlet El Pais, and they could be about to reignite their interest in the summer.
Any proposition involving an immediate transfer fee would surely appeal to United over the chance to receive a sum later down the line, and Newcastle must bare that in mind.
They could have a clear route to land Ugarte if they put instant money on the table, and it could even help to cover for the potential departure of Sandro Tonali.
UEFA rules to force Newcastle hand on Sandro Tonali
Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson recently told Football Insider that Newcastle could accept an £80million offer for Tonali this summer, as they are toeing the line with UEFA’s financial rules.
The Magpies are believed to be close to breaching the European governing body’s squad cost ratio rules, and Borson noted that Tonali could net them a sizeable profit to help with that.
Clubs are queuing up to take the Italian away from St James’ Park this summer, and with Bruno Guimaraes also linked with an exit, new midfielders are likely to be a top priority for Eddie Howe.
With that in mind, a move for Ugarte could help to address that need in the squad, especially since he is likely to be up for an exit at Old Trafford.
