Mateus Mane sends message as Wolves confirm deadline day departure

Wolves have confirmed the departure of Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has joined Crystal Palace for a record fee.

Strand Larsen had long been linked away from Molineux this season after struggling for form and falling out of the side.

With Wolves all but relegated this campaign, a departure in the winter window looked likely as they looked to move on some players.

On Monday, this was confirmed with Palace signing the Norway international for £48million, with Mateus Mane reacting to the news.

The saga surrounding Strand Larsen certainly dragged.

Leeds United had a bid rejected for the striker before Palace placed a £50m offer, which was later withdrawn.

Nevertheless, the Eagles came back in for Larsen late in the window, with it looking likely that Jean-Philippe Mateta would move to AC Milan.

Even though the deal for the France international later collapsed, Palace went through with the signing anyway, ending Strand Larsen’s awful second-season spell at Wolves.

While the Molineux faithful may have mixed opinions on their departing striker, it is clear that he made a positive impact on many of his former teammates.

Once Wolves announced the departure, Strand Larsen took to his Instagram page on 2 February to thank the Old Gold side and the fans for his time at the club.

This saw many of his former teammates react, including Mane, who commented: “All the best bro,” followed by a red love heart emoji.

What has Strand Larsen said about moving to Crystal Palace?

For Strand Larsen, the move will be a fresh start.

In the Premier League this season, he has been awful, scoring just once, with this coming from the penalty spot in a 3-2 defeat to Burnley.

For a striker who netted 14 times in his debut season in the English top-flight, he is woefully out of form.

Nevertheless, he now has a chance to become the main man at the Eagles, and potentially win a trophy in the Europa Conference League.

Upon completing the move, Strand Larsen was quick to explain how excited he was to join the Croydon side, as he explained what he would bring to the team.

He told Crystal Palace on 2 February: “I’m really excited to come to Crystal Palace. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now.

“I’m here to bring energy and goals, and to try to do my best for the club.”
