Mauricio Pochettino perfectly poised to be next Tottenham manager after interim hire amid Thomas Frank sack news

Mauricio Pochettino would be the perfect man to replace Thomas Frank as the Tottenham manager.

Frank is under pressure as Spurs have been eliminated from both competitions, and they sit 14th in the Premier League table after 23 matches.

Tottenham drew 2-2 with Burnley on Saturday, and they now sit 10 points behind fourth-placed Man United.

Frank still has the backing of the board, although Spurs fans are clear that they want him sacked immediately.

Pochettino has been linked with a sensational return, although that would only take place at the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino could join Tottenham after 2026 World Cup

Ferencvaros boss Robbie Keane is among the favourites to succeed Frank, but if the Dane were to leave now, Tottenham would appoint an interim head coach.

The likes of Ledley King, John Heitinga, and Tim Sherwood could all be considered for the role, and then the board would appoint Frank’s permanent successor in the summer.

Pochettino is currently in charge of the USA international team, although his future doesn’t look bright at all.

Pochettino’s record managing the USA

Although they are the joint-hosts of the World Cup, they aren’t expected to do well, and the Argentine has lashed out at journalists in recent press conferences.

After the USA beat Uruguay 5-1 in November, he snapped back at journalist who was undermining his credentials.

International managers are always likely to step down after a major tournament, and barring any unlikely success at the showpiece event, Pochettino will probably do the same.

He took charge of Spurs in May 2014 and enjoyed over five brilliant years in N17, leading the side to a second-placed Premier League finish in 2016-2017 and a Champions League final in 2019.

Every Tottenham fan would love to see him back in the dugout, and they’ll be secretly hoping that the USA has an underwhelming World Cup.

Does Pochettino still have what it takes to manage Tottenham?

Pochettino was sacked by Spurs in November 2019, and he has since gone on to manage Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

Although he has not received the same level of admiration he gained at Tottenham, it’s safe to say that he still has the pedigree to manage at the highest level.

With Frank only a couple of results away from being sacked, Spurs could begin negotiations with Pochettino in order to convince him to join after the World Cup.

Of course, he has to be dismissed in the first place, but hardly any Tottenham fan currently believes that he is the right man to take them forward.

Therefore, Pochettino would be a great appointment, and it would allow someone close to the club to lead the team forward for the rest of the season.

Fans would place trust in the process if Pochettino were to return to N17 for the 2026-27 campaign, and it would seem foolish for ENIC to completely dismiss that possibility.
