Medical Set: Charlton Athletic agree deal to sign Wrexham star - Sources

Charlton Athletic have agreed a deal to sign Wrexham defender Conor Coady on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old will join Nathan Jones’ side until the end of the season as Charlton aim to add an experience head to their defensive unit.

After an agreement was reached between the two clubs, he will now undergo a medical before putting the finishing touches on the deal.

Coady has featured just six times since joining Wrexham from Leicester City and will now be allowed to leave in search of regular playing time.

The former England international has a contract at Wrexham until 2027 after penning a two-year deal last summer, with his long-term future now up in the air.

Coady joined Wrexham in the summer despite interest from the likes of Rangers and Wolves and was tipped to play a major role in their promotion ambitions.

However, the centre-back has struggled to make an impact in Phil Parkinson‘s side and is eyeing a more regular role as Charlton battle against relegation.

The Addicks are currently sat 19th in the Championship, three points above Blackburn in the first relegation spot, and hope to extend their gap in the second half of the season.

Jones has been keen to add experience to his side, while Coady’s leadership is also seen as a vital asset and a big reason he has been targeted by Charlton.

Coady will link up with fellow new arrivals Lyndon Dykes, Harry Clarke and Luke Chambers at The Valley in what has been a busy window so far.

Wrexham push to agree Sidiki Cherif deal

While Coady is set to become the latest player to leave Wrexham this month, they remain keen to strengthen their squad in the closing stages of the window.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 22 January that Wrexham have made a move for Sidiki Cherif and have lodged a record-breaking bid worth £19million to Angers.

The 19-year-old has scored four goals in 19 Ligue 1 games so far this season, and has a contract at Angers until 2029, but could be available for the right price.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 26 January that Parkinson has jetted out to watch Cherif in France, as well as casting his eye over the French market.

Angers drew 0-0 with Paris FC in front of the watching Wrexham manager, who will have been nervous as Cherif was withdrawn following a blow to his ankle.
