Michael Beale says Rangers want to sign 'fantastic' Premier League midfielder

Rangers are still looking to add more players to their squad ahead of the 2 February deadline.

Rangers face Dundee FC on Sunday, with fans potentially in store to see several of their new signings for the first time.

Tochi Chukuwani has played just 10 minutes since his arrival from Strum Graz, while Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen are yet to feature for the Light Blues.

They remain Rangers‘ three only signings so far this winter, but they are eying a fourth, and he is a player that Michael Beale is very fond of.

Rangers could sign Premier League midfielder in days

Plenty of Rangers’ business over the last 12 months has been focused on players in foreign countries, and that is starting to pay off under Danny Rohl.

However, the latest rumour is one that is slightly closer to home.

Rangers are said to be willing to pay a small fee to sign Dan Neil from Sunderland before the end of the transfer window, with the 24-year-old out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

Mainly due to the arrival and extraordinary performances of Granit Xhaka, Neil has not had a look-in for the Black Cats this season, making an exit seem nailed on.

With that said, the midfielder played a crucial role for the Wearsiders in the Championship, not just in their promotion season, but over the last few years, having also played under Beale.

Dan Neil was tipped for greatness by Michael Beale

Sunderland and Rangers fans have one thing in common: they both despise Beale for the way he ran them into the ground with poor tactics and even worse results.

However, from his time at the former, he did play somewhat of a crucial role in the development of several young players, Neil being one of them.

Neil was a regular under Beale at the Stadium of Light, and the former Ibrox coach held the belief that he could go all the way.

Back in 2024, he said: “Dan’s a fantastic player. There are a lot of eyes on Dan because he’s got a lot of potential. Hugely important player in our squad, and I’ve been super impressed with him since I joined the club.

“He’s going to go in and challenge himself against international midfielders, and I think that Dan, from what I can see, has more than enough potential to go and play at that level regularly.

Given the experience he now has under his belt, he would be a great addition for the Gers, and if he can fulfil that potential, it could be a very smart financial move to sign him early.
