Mohamed Salah: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sends social media message as former teammate announces Liverpool exit

Mohamed Salah has announced that, after nine incredible years, he will walk away from Liverpool this summer.

The winger’s contract is expected to end in 2027, but he is said to be willing to give up the terms of the final year.

It has been a difficult season for Salah, who has suffered a significant drop-off in form compared to last season amid contention with Arne Slot.

The Dutchman could well leave the Reds in the summer as well, having publicly fallen out with the forward in December.

Liverpool’s transfer chiefs will likely already be in the process of shortlisting Salah’s replacement, and face a massive job to replicate his output.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain messages Mohamed Salah

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider in February that Liverpool see Rio Ngumoha as Salah’s replacement.

The 17-year-old has broken through for the Reds this season and has looked impressive, although he has some way to go before being capable of matching the Egyptian’s output.

Year after year, during his nine years at Anfield, Salah scored and assisted at a frightening rate in the Premier League.

This season is set to be far and away the 33-year-old’s least productive season in a Liverpool shirt, and yet, it will have produced at least 20 goals and assists when all is said and done.

Salah missed Liverpool’s loss to Brighton through injury, but he is expected to return after the international break.

Should he stay fit for the remainder of the season, his final appearance at Anfield will come on the final day against Brentford.

His last game for Liverpool could come even later than that, however, with the Reds set for quarter-finals in both the Champions League and the FA Cup.

After the winger posted a video confirming his departure this summer, former teammate and current Celtic man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain responded with a heart and a crown emoji.

Where Salah ends up in Premier League history

With his goal against Burnley in September, Salah passed Andy Cole on the all-time Premier League top scorers list.

The Egyptian is now fourth with 191 goals, and would have certainly passed Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane this season had he replicated his heroics from the last campaign.

There is still work Salah can do before the end of May in the assists department, however, with his 93 currently level with David Silva and one behind Dennis Bergkamp.

No matter where he ends up in the charts, the 33-year-old undoubtedly goes down among the best Premier League players ever when he leaves this summer, and arguably the league’s best-ever winger.
