'Money is no object' for Man City after new cash injection - finance expert

Man City’s owners are continuing to show their backing for the club after a fresh injection of funds.

That is according to football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who has exclusively told Football Insider his verdict after Man City’s owners invested £60million in the form of a new share issue.

Man City are part of City Football Group, a multi-club ownership structure, which is currently made up of 12 teams.

In 2025, Man City‘s owners injected £70m into the group, which is primarily used to pay bills and finance projects.

Man City ‘showing no signs of slowing down’

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley believes the latest injection will contribute towards Man City’s expansion of the Etihad and other stadium projects.

“It is not unusual for them to do so. It shows that they still are intent on bankrolling this project,” Plumley said.

“I think they put £70m in or £75m a year or so ago as well. And if you look at what they’ve got going on across the group, of course, we know City is still the flagship, but they’re looking at currently expanding the Etihad and New York City.

“They’ve got a stadium, a new stadium project on the go. So it’s another example of, you know, the backing by the ownership group. They’re showing no signs of trying to slow down, no signs of, you know, kind of based on that.

“They’ll keep putting money in it at the moment. And, of course, you know, money to them is still no object at the minute.

So, yeah, it is something they’ll do, they’ve done, and it’s something they’ll continue to do, and they’ll continue to buy this project with City as their flagship, but, of course, as well across the City Football Group.”

Man City update Elliot Anderson stance

Man City have been active in the January transfer window, with the additions of Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo.

Those two purchases though may mean Man City do not attempt to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in this window.

The 23-year-old has become sought after by Premier League clubs, with Nottingham Forest valuing the midfielder at £100m.
